WASHINGTON, DC – The Transportation Security Administration has unveiled new plans to deal with what’s likely to be one of the busiest summers for travel in many years. Under the new program, the agency plans to hire 3 more people in total across the entire airport security system.

With many predicting the busiest summer for travel in many years, the Nation’s airports figure to be slammed this summer. AAA is predicting at least a 60% increase in travel throughout the period with more than 80% of Americans planning some sort of trip. For its part, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) feels prepared after unveiling a new hiring spree to help speed things up in the screening process.

TSA Administrator David Pekoske addressed a group of reporters earlier this week and shared that his agency was prepared to hire as many as 3 more airport screeners across the country. “We expect the summer to be very, very busy,” Pekoske said, “But with this kind of initiative and support from the Biden Administration the public can rest assured we are ready to handle anything.”

As labor shortages affect nearly every industry the business of making sure passengers don’t bring too much soap with them on their trips has also been affected. However, through a special emergency executive order from the Biden Administration, the agency was able to shake loose the critical 3 additional positions – and it could be just the salve a tired TSA staff will need to make it through the summer.

Pekoske went on to say that he thinks that these moves could reduce wait times at busy airports like Orlando by as much as .0005 seconds and could be the difference between a happy trip and a ruined trip.

When questioned, Pekoske offered no comment on the 119 TSA agents out on leave with COVID.
