FORTH WORTH, TX – Capital One X, the bank’s premium card, launched its first lounge in busy Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, but its second location has some scratching their heads.

As one of the newest banks to open its own network of airport lounges, Capital One has announced its next location: Sioux City, Iowa. The two-gate airport with just one daily flight was an odd choice for a second lounge for big-time bank.

The TakeOff Nap asked why SUX?

“Essential Air Service cities are neglected by airlines and the traveling public at large. We had an opportunity to become the sole airport lounge in Sioux City and it only made sense for us to seize that exclusivity. We want the 90,000 people of Sioux City, Iowa – and their neighbors in South Sioux City, Nebraska – to know that the only bank that cares about them in the region, is Capital One,” said Jinnie Smyth, a spokesperson for the bank.

Sioux City is an extremely limited market and with further uncertainty as to whether service will remain intact, TTN investigated further, speaking to Airport Manager, Dale Spitzer.

“We offered Capital One an attractive package to convert half of the seating area into their exclusive lounge at our cost. Really, it was just 20-30 feet of drywall that our maintenance guy, Trey, put up in an afternoon and some paint. The bank put the waffle iron and fountain soda machine in themselves.”

Both the airport and the bank are confident that travel and service will grow from the airport due to this new “big city” amenity.

“We feel good about the airport’s future and now that we occupy half of the available customer seating in the airport, it should lead to more card sign ups just so travelers won’t have to stand while they wait for their flight. It’s a good move for us, and we think for SUX too.”
