ST LOUIS, MO – A 29-year man was recently caught performing an extremely unusual act when he chose to buckle his seat belt while riding in an airport shuttle to the rental car center.
Kent James just started a new job that has him doing a fair bit of business travel. The young man is a field repair technician for a company selling industrial soap to farms. The new job has him flying into various midwestern and rust belt towns before what is usually a lengthy drive to the places where farms exist.
On a recent trip into St. Louis, MO, James had booked a car through Budget and jumped on to the rental car shuttle after a lengthy wait. Immediately after lobbing his bag into the luggage bin, James sat down, buckled his seatbelt and started checking email.
The other six passengers in the shuttle were perplexed. “A seat belt!?” remarked Carl Flowerton, a seasoned auto parts salesman riding in the same shuttle, “No one wears seat belt in a flipping rental car shuttle.”
“What a goon,” thought Sara Jenson, a pharmaceutical rep in town for a conference, “What an absolute goon.”
Even the family of three, whose young child of 6 was bouncing around on the floor of the shuttle every time it turned, was surprised. The 6-year-old just pointed a booger-covered finger at James, and asked, “Why you dumb?” He then wiped his booger on James’ pants leg as he tumbled backward when the shuttle accelerated.
For his part, even the driver of the shuttle was caught off guard, and told James that he wasn’t even sure they were connected to anything and that he should use them at his own risk.
I’m from STL and I buckle up too! 😉
I’m shocked. This is not satire. Very smart to buckle your seat belt. If your head is bashed in, will Marriott or Thrifty thank you for not wearing a seat belt? Not wearing a seat belt will not get you a hot date.
I misread the headline and thought it read Accidentally, similarly imagining the crowd recoiling in horror. Still good snark.
