PARSIPPANY, NJ – Rental car juggernaut Avis Car Rental announced it has no plans to compete with its rival National Car Rental, acknowledging in a press release that it is “perfectly fine being a pretty bad” rental car company because at least it doesn’t arrest its customers.”
The New Jersey-based rental car company Avis recently announced it has no plans to compete with rival National Car Rental, acknowledging that it really isn’t interested in delivering a great customer service experience and is “perfectly fine being a pretty bad” rental car company.
The company’s statement also highlighted that the company is considering more closely aligning itself with a more appropriate rival: Hertz. It further noted that the company is even discussing a very similar program to Hertz’s extremely successful “every 10 passenger gets arrested” program.
TTN reporters spoke with insiders (on background) at the Salt Lake City Airport Avis kiosk who were surprised that folks still expected any sort of meaningful customer service from a company that also owns Budget Rent A Car. “It’s a joyless experience working here every day. We only have 3 employees per airport and 11 cars in total – 6 of which have been smoked in,” said the Avis employee. “We gave up a looonnng time ago.”
For its part, National Car Rental continues to be focused on delivering a delightful customer service experience. In a statement released by the company’s CEO, the company noted, “We never really viewed Avis as a competitor, to be honest. Silly name, bad cars, and demotivated staff. Also, like, what does ‘Avis’ even mean, anyway?”
