HOUSTON, TX – Doug Sax is an optimistic individual and it’s this optimism he’s relying on as he holds out hope for a much-needed first-class upgrade despite being 23rd on the upgrade list.

Doug Sax doesn’t normally travel on United Airlines, but because of ticket prices he was forced to comply with his company’s travel policy and book the cheapest ticket. That meant instead of his beloved Delta Airlines, he was stuck flying Delta.

Initially, a bit nonplussed, Sax, who holds Platinum status on Delta Airlines, remains confident that he will still get the upgrade on his flight despite being 23rd on the upgrade list.

“Listen, I’ve been traveling for a while now so I know the deal,” opined Sax to a fellow business traveler in the gate area, “I did a status match with United and they gave me Gold level. Plus they want me to start flying on their airline so they are gonna upgrade me for sure.”

Keen observers, however, might have noticed a subtle head shake and eye roll from Shanda Grimes, the gate agent on the Houston flight. Some might have even seen her mouth the words “nope, not today.”

Sax’s optimism appeared contagious as several other lower-tier status holders on the airline suddenly felt emboldened by his optimism and began to post social media messages about how things were “about to get lit.”
