COLUMBUS, OH – Karen Jones is pretty sure she wants a divorce but has agreed to one more holiday trip just to make sure. Besides, no one files for divorce in December.
The 41-year-old Jones has been married for 21 years, 3 of which have actually been pretty good, 11 of which have been a soul-sucking buffet of malaise and 7 years spent arguing about her mother-in-law.
However, after the last Thanksgiving holiday, she’s fairly sure she wants to pull the trigger. One final test remains the annual holiday family vacation.
Nothing says I made a horrible choice in spousal partners than a flight with 3 kids through Midway International Airport during the holidays replete with 4 hours of listening to her husband bitch about the fact she let her TSA Precheck expire and shouldn’t have checked her bag – you know – the one with Christmas presents in it.
Then, a fake hug for “mom,” some faux interest in her sister-in-law’s burgeoning career as a cake decorator followed by the obligatory family photo.
“Yes, Susan. It’s really exciting.”
But no one files for divorce in December. That’s what January is for.
