BARSTOW, CA – A family of 4 recently moved Barstow to the top of their summer vacation planning list. According to the father, it’s so much more than just a place to use the Bathroom before continuing on to Las Vegas.
Sadie and Stephen Jenkins have spent the last three weekends planning their big summer vacation. For several hours a day, the San Diego-based couple has been pouring over various destination options, trying to find the perfect spot to take their two children, Krystn (age 9) and Kellen (age 11). Last Saturday, however, they had a breakthrough and have just identified their number one choice so far: Barstow, California.
As long-term Southern California residents, the Jenkins have been through Barstow numerous times. From drives to Las Vegas or Arizona, Barstow was a popular bathroom and lunch stop for them as children, or even throughout their college years. Even in the early years of their marriage, they’d stop to charge their Tesla before heading off to Lake Havasu or Las Vegas.
But, they’d never really considered it a destination location. Until now. After briefly considering Needles, CA, or Blythe, the family really dug into Barstow.
“There’s just so much charm there,” Sadie mentioned, “It’s not just homeless drug addicts, truckers and Tesla chargers.”
“For example, the downtown area is really shaping up,” interjected Stephen, “They have an iconic Harvey House and of course, Route 66 cuts through here.”
“Oh yeah, Route 66 is always good for the ‘gram,” chimed in Sadie.
“Besides, if we need to buy some meth, they have some of the finest grade meth in the Southern California region,” Stephen remarked.
